Course overview

This unit specifies the outcomes required for the operation of a powered industrial truck equipped with a mast and an elevating load carriage to which is attached a pair of fork arms or other attachment for licensing purposes. This definition also includes a truck on which the operator is raised with the attachment for order-picking. This course covers the lifting and relocation of loads using a conventional forklift generally in a surface situation. Participants will learn to interpret and clarify work requirements, access and apply safety information and procedures throughout operations, fit and remove attachments in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications, coordinate activities to ensure a safe work site.
Outcomes
This course enables participants to operate a forklift in a supervised environment on private sites.
Clothing and Footwear
A minimum standard of clothing for practical training consisting of long trousers and long sleeved shirt is mandatory. Accrete operates an enclosed shoe site, fully enclosed footwear is required.
Failure to wear the correct clothing or footwear may result in training being refused.
Prerequisites
Participants must provide proof of a current drivers license. Operators of forklifts shall be at least 18 years of age and be sufficiently fluent in the use of the English language and have a basic understanding of mathematics for communication and calculation purposes.

Assessments
Assessment will involve, practical exercises using a Counter balance Forklift and a theory assessment that can be conducted as a written assessment or a verbal assessment. The unit will be assessed in as holistic a manner as is practical. Assessment will occur over a range of situations.
PLEASE NOTE: Should the participant need to be re-assessed, all effort will be made to re-assess during the next scheduled course. However, where this is not possible participants may incur an additional fee.
